THEMATIC COLLABORATIVE CLUSTER: CORAL CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION

CORAL CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION IN COLOMBIA

Our coral collaborative project is primarily based on both active participation in restoration with our partners in the Caribbean, along with advancing the science behind how to refine that process of restoration. We want to find out how reefs are changing in multiple areas of the Caribbean and beyond, and share knowledge across the space to enact local restoration and conservation efforts.

In 2022 and 2023, we were back in Colombia for restoration work on the northern coast, and worked with both Acropora species and boulder coral Orbicella species to advance coral sexual propagation capacity. We are also working to improve knowledge of larval performance of settling corals.

In 2024, we will be working in both Islas del Rosario and the Santa Marta area with project partners both in-country and from the U.S.
